Storžič is a 2,132-meter-high peak, considered the highest peak in the western part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. Storžič is named for its distinctive, beautifully shaped, conical form, which makes it visible from a great distance. In Valvasor’s time, the peak was called Storžec. A large cross stands at the summit, and you’ll also find a guestbook and the stamp for the Slovenian Mountain Trail, or “transversale.” Storžič is also considered one of the most popular hills in this mountain range, delighting hikers with its beautiful views from the summit. Precisely for this reason, there are numerous trails leading to Storžič, so varied that almost anyone can hike to the summit. It should be noted, however, that all trails leading to Storžič are somewhat longer and require a certain level of fitness. There are numerous mountain huts in the vicinity of Storžič, such as the Koča pod Storžičem, Krničarjeva koča, the Velika Poljana Shelter, and the Dom na Kališču. The slopes of Storžič are also rich in flora, such as the beautiful snowbell, the alpine bellflower, and others. In fact, the first people to set foot on Storžič were botanists. Storžič boasts four ridges: the Northern, Eastern, Western, and Southwestern ridges. Trails run along all the ridges. From the summit, beautiful views open up toward the Ljubljana Basin, Krim, the Škofja Loka Hills, Nanos, the Javornik Mountains, and Snežnik; the Julian Alps with Triglav; the Karawanks with Stol and Begunjščica; and Krvavec. The following hills rise in the surrounding area: Mali Grintavec, Srednji Vrh, Veliki Javornik, Psica, and others.
