The Hlek Bivouac, located on the southern slope of Vršanja glava (1,368 m) in the Julian Alps, serves as a base for hikers and nature lovers exploring the area. Built in 1983 by hikers from the village of Kred, members of the Kobarid Mountaineering Club, the bivouac remains open year-round and offers shelter and basic amenities in a pristine mountain setting. The Hlek Bivouac is conveniently located along the trail from Kobarid to Stol. It is accessible by both car and public transportation, but keep in mind that it takes some time to walk to the bivouac. By bus: It takes about 3 hours to walk from the bus station in Kobarid. By car: Travel times vary depending on the route and starting point chosen. For example, from Kobarid, the hike to the shelter takes about 3 hours. The Hlek Shelter is a simple shelter with 10 beds equipped with blankets and 10 seats. In addition, there is a water tank with a tap for water supply and a fireplace for cooking. Although the facilities are basic, they are sufficient to ensure comfort and safety during your stay in the mountains. The area around the shelter offers numerous opportunities for hiking and exploring nature. The summit of Vršanja glava is a popular destination for hikers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the Soča Valley. In addition, the area is rich in natural beauty and wildlife, offering visitors a unique experience of the Alpine environment. The Hlek Mountain Hut serves as an important shelter on the route to Vršanja Glava and is a crucial part of the mountaineering infrastructure in the Julian Alps.
