Just a few minutes’ drive outside Tolmin lies an extraordinary natural landmark created by the Tolminka River. These are the Tolmin Gorges. The Tolmin Gorges are located at an elevation of 180 meters above sea level, making them the lowest point in Triglav National Park. The Tolmin Gorges consist of the gorges of the Tolminka and Zadlaščica Rivers, which converge at the only confluence within gorges in Slovenia. You can walk through the Tolmin Gorges along a well-maintained circular trail, admiring the following sights along the way: 1. Devil’s Bridge: The bridge is situated 60 meters above the Tolmin Gorges, and a road runs across it, leading from Tolmin to Čadrg. From the bridge, you have a spectacular view of the Tolmin Gorges and the Tolminka River, which flows turbulently through them. 2. Dante’s (or Zadlaška) Cave: The cave is named after the village of Zadlaz. It is 1,140 m long and 41 m deep, and contains three chambers. It is considered one of the more challenging caves, so visits are only permitted with a guide. 3. Bear’s Head: This is a large rock wedged between rocky walls, whose shape resembles a bear’s head. 4. Thermal Spring: Just below Hudičev Most, a thermal spring flows into the Tolminka River; its water temperature remains constant between 18 and 20 °C. You can walk to the Tolmin Gorges from the designated parking lot located next to the Tolminska Korita restaurant. During the summer season, there is an admission fee to visit the Tolmin Gorges.
