From Tolmin, head towards Kobarid. In Kobarid, continue along the main road, past Petrol, and keep to the main road leading to the centre of Kobarid. In the centre, turn left, and then, before a small parking area under an avenue, you will see a narrower road on the right hand side of the road, which turns right. There will also be a sign for the Italian ossuary. Follow the road to the ossuary and park in the car park.

Find the footpath on the left side of the ossuary. The path immediately leads into the woods and forks. Keep to the left-hand path, which leads you through the woods on mainly level ground for a long distance. When you reach a crossroads, turn right towards Tonoc Castle. Then continue along the path for a long time, which at one point turns sharply to the right and leads up to the castle. During the ascent, it forks again - keep right.
