Drive to the center of Kobarid, and right in the heart of town, at the intersection, turn left, passing the monument to Simon Gregorčič—one of Slovenia’s most important poets. We all surely remember learning to recite his poem “Soči” by heart in elementary school. Then drive straight through the lush tree-lined avenue. On your right, you’ll see the Hiša Franko restaurant, where world-renowned chef Ana Roš prepares the dishes. If you enjoy good food, you can treat yourself to a delicious lunch from her kitchen on your way back. When you reach the roundabout, take the second exit toward Breginj and Podbela. On your right, you’ll see the Aurora Casino. Continue along the road, past Borjana and Homec, to Breginj. In Breginj, continue straight until you cross the bridge with the old iron railing. Immediately after crossing the bridge, you’ll see a parking lot on your left. Park here. From the parking lot, you’ll already be able to see the summit of Stol, your destination. Grab your gear and set off on foot along the path located on the other side of the road you just drove on.

From the parking lot, cross the street and head up the street. After the houses end, the road becomes a gravel road, and that’s where the first signposts begin. Continue walking uphill along the stream and past the weekend cottage. At the fork in the road, just past the cottage, stay on the road (to the left) and you’ll quickly reach your destination.
