From Agios Nikolaos, head toward Heraklion. Drive to the village of Malia, where, at the intersection (you’ll recognize it by the supermarket on the right and the hair salon on the left), turn left and then left again shortly after. At the next fork in the road, marked by large signposts, keep to the right. Then drive straight ahead for a while toward the village of Krasi. Before reaching it, you’ll come to a major fork where you should turn right and then left toward the plateau. Continue on to the village of Pinakiano, where you’ll turn right and drive up to the parking lot below the cave.

On foot, follow the paved path, which begins to climb immediately. A zigzagging ascent follows until you reach the cave entrance. You’ll need to pay the entrance fee here. Once you enter the cave, you’ll need to descend a flight of stairs. The stairs form a circular path.
