Getting to the trailhead:
From Ljubljana, head toward Nova Gorica. From the highway, take the exit for Selo / Dornberk / Črniče. Immediately after the exit, there’s another fork in the road; turn right there, then drive under the highway bridge and you’ll reach another fork, where you’ll turn right twice. After crossing the Vipava River, you’ll reach the village of Dornberk, where you’ll turn left at the junction with the main road. A longer drive follows to the village of Lipa, where we park in the parking lot next to St. Michael’s Church.
Trail description:
On foot, a signpost for Trstelj directs us across a small meadow, after which we join the road. We simply cross the road and rejoin the trail through the meadow, which leads into the forest. A longer climb through the woods follows, after which we’ll reach a gravel road; we’ll join it and continue climbing along it to the hut. Just a few meters before the hut, a trail branches off to the left; take this trail to continue your journey to the summit of Trstelj. Next, cross the summit, where you’ll see signposts on the other side directing you back into the forest. Next, descend along the trail until you reach a major fork. Continue along the narrower trail that leads straight ahead and begin a moderate ascent that takes you to the summit.
