From Tolmin, drive to the village of Zatolmin, and just before the Zatolmin restaurant, turn left. Continue along the road that passes through the village of Dolje toward Gabrje. Park along the road just past the Gabrje sign.

We continue on foot toward the village. When we see the road that turns left toward the Gabrje campground at a fork just a few meters away, we turn right onto a narrower road and follow it to the last houses. Here, take the left-hand dirt road that leads into the forest. Continue along the initially flat dirt road, which begins to climb and leads to a fork in the trail. Take the narrow trail and follow it uphill for a while, until it joins a gravel road. A longer walk along the gravel road follows; it climbs at first but soon levels off. After a while, the path becomes a trail and crosses a small stream. A moderate climb follows, with views of small waterfalls to our left, after which the trail soon turns into a dirt road that takes us to the village of Krn. In the village, turn right and follow the road to a bend where a trail branches off to the right, serving as a shortcut. Following it for a few dozen meters, we climb back up to the road, along which we walk past houses and continue onto a gentle cart track. From here, a magnificent view of the high mountains opens up before us. The cart track leads into the forest and begins to climb. We’ll also come to a fork in the trail, where we’ll keep to the left, as indicated by the signpost. Along the way, we’ll pass by Puščavnik’s Cave. After walking for some time, we’ll reach grassy areas, and we’ll spot a hunting cabin nearby. We’ll head toward the hunting cabin but continue past it along a gravel road that descends to the Pretovč mountain pasture.
