You will find it hard to get lost until you reach the Kobariškės Chair. Drive into the centre of Kobarid and turn left at the crossroads in the clean centre, past the monument to Simon Gregorčič - one of Slovenia's most important poets. I'm sure we all remember memorising his poem "Soči" in primary school. Then drive straight through the lush avenue. On your right you will see the Hiša Franko restaurant, where world-famous chef Ana Roš prepares the dishes. If you like to eat well, you can reward yourself with a tasty lunch from her kitchen in the back garden. When you reach the roundabout, take the second exit, towards Briginj and Podbela. You will see the Casino Aurora on your right. Continue along the road, past Borjanea, Homec to Breginj. In Breginje, drive straight on until you cross a bridge with an old iron fence. Immediately after the bridge, you will see a car park on your left. Park here. From the car park you will already see the top of Stola, your destination. Take your equipment and walk along the road on the other side of the road you came from.
Trail description:On foot, you will first pass by houses, and just beyond them you will see beautiful nature and signposts confirming that you are on the right path. Your destination is still 2 hours and 45 minutes away. The path first follows a stone road. Walk straight ahead until you reach a crossroads where you turn right and cross a short bridge. Go straight on again until you see a narrow lane on the left-hand side of the path. There is also a large marker pointing to it, so you won't miss it. From here on, you start to climb vertically along the forest track, crossing the stone road a few times in between. If you watch carefully enough, you're sure to see some frogs along the way. Continue along the forest path to the church with the large bell. Don't forget to stop for a minute, make a wish and ring the bell. Then turn right, where you will also see another signpost. Soon after, you will emerge from the woods onto an open, grassy path. From here on, you will be accompanied by a magnificent view of the rolling hills. You will also be able to gaze at the top of Stola, which will seem infinitely distant. With a little willpower and perseverance, you will soon be at the top, where you will be greeted by a magnificent view. Reward yourself with a snack and some rest. Enjoy as much as you like. The Kobariš chair is also part of the extended transversal and if you are keen to fill it up, don't forget to get it stamped and enter it in the mountain book. Once you've rested and refreshed yourself, all that's left to do is head down. In the valley, you can cool off in a cold stream.
Additional tips:- as most of the trails are in the open, head for the chair in the early morning or on cooler days. Definitely don't do the trail on hot days
