We drive to Kočevje. Drive past Komunala Kočevje (on the right) and turn right at the crossroads onto Roška cesta. Cross the bridge (the river Rinža) and take the first exit at the roundabout. Take Podgorska Street, where you will see the mountain signs for Jelenov Studenec and a nicely arranged parking lot next to them.

From the car park, walk to the marked crossroads and then continue left (the Castle Trail). Walk past the houses and then begin the climb through the forest. Soon cross a forest road and continue along a steep footpath. A well-marked path then leads to a crossroads. Continue slightly to the right in the direction of the hut at Jelenov Studenec and Mestnemu vrh. Continue walking and you will see signs for Mestni vrh (right) and we continue left towards the hut at Jelenovem studencu. Shortly afterwards, we descend to the forest road and after a few minutes we reach the mountain lodge at Jelenov Studenec.
