Let’s drive to Most na Soči and continue along the main road past Modrejci and Kozaršč. After passing Kozaršč, we’ll come to a fork in the road, which we’ll recognize by the Gostol factory right at the fork. Turn right and continue past Volč toward Kobarid and Bovec. In the village of Idrsko, at the first major fork, turn left and follow the road to the village of Livek, where you’ll turn right at the fork—signs for Matajur will also point you in that direction. Continue to the village of Avsa; once in the village, drive only as far as the small parking lot on the right side of the road, which you’ll recognize by the directional signs. Park here.
Trail description:On foot, we head toward a forest trail that begins to climb immediately. The first ascent through the forest follows, interrupted by a short stretch across a small meadow. Immediately after the meadow, the trail leads back into the forest and becomes slightly steeper. Once the trail has risen high enough to offer beautiful views, the terrain levels off somewhat and, after a while, leads us along a pleasant path to the next grassy slope. We climb up the meadow all the way to a fenced-in horse pasture. Here, the trail veers slightly to the left and leads us just below Srednji Vrh to a gravel road. We join the road and follow it for a short while until we reach a signpost that directs us to the right, back onto the grassy trail. A short climb follows, after which the trail levels out again, and a spectacular view of Krn opens up before us. From here, we simply turn right and climb up to Mrzli vrh.
