Drive to Tolmin and, at the main traffic-light-controlled intersection, turn toward the village of Zatolmin. When you reach Zatolmin, turn right past the Zatolmin restaurant toward the Tolmin Gorges. From there, drive just a few dozen meters, and at the next possible fork—right before the Gugala cheese factory—turn left. From there, follow the road, which turns into a gravel road past the Church of St. Peter. A longer drive through the forest follows, which, after about half an hour, brings us to a fork where the road to Sv. Duh na Javorci branches off to the left, while we continue straight ahead for a few dozen meters, all the way to the barrier on the road, in front of which we park.
Trail description:We continue on foot along the road past the barrier, which is initially surrounded by meadows but later leads into the forest. We continue on flat ground for a while, and then the road begins to climb more steeply and wind its way upward. Shortly after crossing another road barrier, the road will fork—here, turn right and descend a few hundred meters to the source of the Tolminka River, located in a large meadow next to which stands the Lovska koča pod Osojnico hunting lodge. From here, continue past a wooden fence and across the meadow to the next marked fork, where you’ll keep to the left. After just a few dozen meters, the trail will lead you to a weir; here, keep to the left to cross the rocky area. When we reach the meadow again, just before the forest, we’ll see a signpost directing us into the woods. We continue along the forest path for a few more minutes until we reach the small Na Vrtičih hunting cabin, next to which is a small meadow. We’ll go around the cabin on the left, across the meadow, after which the trail will lead us back into the forest. After crossing a short stretch of forest, we’ll reach a rocky section, up which we’ll climb back into the forest. From here on, a longer walk along a winding, moderately ascending trail awaits us. Once we’ve climbed the forest trail, only a short section of the route remains—running right alongside a cliff—and we’ll reach the Prehodci Pass.
